MINUTES OF THE 24TH GENERAL
ASSEMBLY
The
General Assembly started at 8:00p.m 27th July 2001.
Mr.
Christopher from JUMSA (Nigeria) nominated the FAMSA HQ. Administrator as
Chairman of the GA which was seconded by Mr. Kamal from JUMSA (Nigeria).
Mr. Igboekwu Chukwumuanya, FAMSA HQ Administrator accepted the nomination
and urged all the delegates present to have the interest of FAMSA at
heart. Mr. Igboekwu asked the house to permit him to ask for assistance of
Mr. Seyi Adigun because he is ill-disposed. The
Chairman introduced Dr. Kamil Shoretire, a former FAMSA HQ. Administrator,
and presently a resident doctor in the University College Hospital. Dr.
Kamil encouraged all delegates present of the need to vote objectively for
posterity sake during the election. Mr. Yemi Adesofe from AMSUL (Nigeria)
nominated Mr. Adigun Seyi as Vice chairman for the GA which was seconded
by David Ajani. Mr.
Ajani from LASUMSA nominated Mr. Jeje for Vice chairman which was later
withdrawn by him. Mr.
Jubril Ibrahim for JUMSA (Nigeria) nominated Mr. Musa Kana as Vice
Chairman for the GA which was seconded by Mr. Ashira. Mr. Jato raised an
observation that only Delegates can be nominated and nominate any body for
the Vice chairman. Mr.
David Ajani nominated Mr. Shila Shonoja as Secretary for the
25th General Assembly this was seconded by Mr. Yomi Adeoye.
Mr.
Shila Solioya accepted the nomination. Mr. Emeka (Uniben) suggested a
Provost Marshall for the G.A. The
chairman nominated Musa Kana (Unijos Nigeria) as the Provost Marshall of
24th Famsa G.A. -
The
motion for adoption of Agenda was moved by the AMSUL president and Uniben
president (Emeka Aliege) seconded the motion. -
JUMSA
president (Jibris Sule) moved a motion to skip from item 5 to item 6 and
it was seconded by NAUMSA president. -
Different
proposals were presented on modes of nomination and elections which included;

1 vote null and void The newly
elected President, MR. ISAKKA
KAMAYE, OF THE NIGER REPUBLIC, gave a short address which was then
followed by another short address by the newly elected VICE PRESIDENT, MR. MAJOK MALEK OF
SUDAN, who reiterated that
the next G.A will be hosted around the same time next year, but that the
place of G.A cannot be determined yet and he will communicate with each
MSA later in the year. -
Mr.
Jatto Hamzat wants the G.A to discuss the constitution

While
Mr. Jubril Sule (JUMIA President) wants the house and the newly elected
executive to constitute a sub committee to review the constitution.

Mr.
Sola Pitan NIMSA (Deputy President) also wants the newly elected Executive
to review the constitution before the next G.A in Sudan.

Eneuo
Chidi (NAUMSA President) moved a motion that the newly elected executive
constitute a sub committee to review the constitution before the next G.A.
Mr. Baak, Vice President BUMSA (Sudan) reiterated his appreciation and
pleasure in the recently concluded FAMSA election. While Mr. David Ajani seconded the
motion to review the constitution before the next G.A in Sudan next year.
FINANCE
The Chairman Mr. Chukwumuanya Igboekwu (FAMSA Administrator) informed the General Assembly, that the association is having financial difficulties in the execution of its projects and activities. He said that this General Assembly was almost not going to hold, was it not for the intervention of a former FAMSA member Dr. Kola Ojo MD. Geotess Group of Companies who came to rescue the association from the financial predicament and who sponsored the feeding and accommodation of the delegates and resource persons. He advised members to embark on aggressive fund raising for the FAMSA when they get back to their various countries. The
Administrator was mandated to be give statement of account every six
months to the Executive council.
At
about 2:30a.m. of July 28th 2001, Mr. Joseph Umoru (ABUMSA
delegate) moved a motion to adjourn the G.A till the next G.A in Sudan which was seconded by
Dr. Alex Muganga (Makarere University Kampala Uganda ).
